The following Extracts are reviews written by pupils of St Anne’s Catholic School for Girls when they had the opportunity to work alongside Enfield’s Youth Engagement Panel.

To my very interested reader!

On the first day that we met the Y.E.P representatives, it was during a workshop they were doing at my school. The two workshops I took part in were, Creative writing and team building. I enjoyed the creative writing workshop the most because I enjoy writing lyrics and singing. At the end of the day I got the chance to perform the song I wrote. And because they thought the song was good they asked me and two friends to go to a recording studio to record the songs we wrote, (IT WAS LIVE!!).

We ended up doing the song together, called hard work, which came out really good. I think this experience made me realize how much I really love music and singing, and it gave me the urge to carry on writing and recording the work that I do.

I think because of these two days I am now really considering going on to do things like that in the future because I like listening to music that I know I have made, and I know I am going to work hard that is my drive. So hopefully I’ll become famous! Thanks to the Yep for a great day.

The first day that the YEP people came they put us in different groups. I was in the creative writing group with a couple of other students. The people in my group were Anthea, Christina and Abigail. We all did a song and a rap, which we performed. After that I got put in a drama group with the same people including Lunette and we performed a sketch and proudly got chosen again. I really enjoyed the whole day with them during the week’s activities week.

A few weeks later 3 girls got chosen. So it was Carita, Whitney and I that surprisingly got chosen. We went to their recording studio and made our own song. It was actually my first time doing something like that, so it really boosted my confidence. I just had a blast, if I could go there and do everything again I would. In the song we all had different parts, which we made then finally put it all together and put our song on our own CD.

When I listened to the song on the CD, I couldn’t believe it, it sounded so professional. I was so proud of the team and myself. At the end we took a few pictures then the killer bit came when we had to go back to school. When I got home I banged on and on about my first CD that I ever made with other people to my family. I was annoying everyone at home but I didn’t care one bit.

I’m actually very happy that I went to the recording studio because it can help in life with people who want to make music in life. I still can’t believe it I got chosen out of how many girls in the school and me, me, me got chosen. I was very happy I wanted to scream my head off when I found out but I maintained myself for the first time. I feel like I’m famous now!

………………..Thank you YEP

In activities on SEAL day the YEP came to the Upper School to teach us a few things. There was an art workshop, a team-building workshop, a drama workshop and a creative writing workshop. In the creative writing workshop we had to work in groups to write lyrics to an instrumental. My group had very good lyrics, but at the end assembly no one wanted to perform the whole thing so I chose to do it. In the performance I was very scared and messed up a little bit but no one noticed. Everyone enjoyed my performance and I was happy I had learnt something new.

Before the holidays I was in a maths lesson and Ms Lawrence came into the lesson to take me outside. I was a bit confused and I didn’t know what she was going to say. But when she told me that I was going on a trip with the YEP to record a song I was very excited and told all my friends.

On the way to the recording studio in the taxi I was a little bit scared and didn’t know what to expect. I was excited that by the end of the day I would hear my voice in a song – something I’d never thought would happen to me. When we got to the studio Ashton and Randy were outside waiting for us. When we got inside and finally started recording I felt very comfortable and thought to myself that there was no need to be scared. That day was very special to me, I learnt things about music recording and it seemed quite easy and natural to me.

The day was very special to me, the day spent with my friends and the YEP was great fun and hearing our voices on the song was the best part. We worked hard to create something great that will last forever.

I hope there will be many more chances for us to do more things like this in the future.

Thanks to the YEP guys for making this special day happen for us.
